I say, the M1, the gun that won the war. Or else the Thompson '28. Cops, gangsters, soldiers, 'nuff said. |

Or the M-16. |

And the M1 Garand for rifles:

But if I had to choose just one gun to represent "America's Gun", I would pick the Colt Single Action Army, chambered in a .45 Long Colt. After all, it's the gun that won the West!

I'll have to say the 1911. virtually ignored in the rest of the world, hugely popular in america. |

M2 Browning because it had more uses, was used for longer than others, and is still used today. Not sure I'd really call it "america's gun" as much as "America's best gun".
The gun that symbolizes america most would be the colt as said above, mostly because western movies were so popular for so many people and americans are still sometimes stereotyped as "cowboys". Therefore it is more symbolic of america (despite being less efficacious).
Runners up would include the M1, Winchester rifle, and maybe the Thompson Sub-Machine gun or Mossberg 500.
What is the best gun produced by america today, for today's and tomorrow's conflicts? |

| Gorbichov | Apr 16, 4:59pm | | I'd have to agree that that M1911 is "America's Gun", the M1 Garand is definitely right there with it. The M2 Browning is definitely a great piece of machinery but very few of us have a chance of owning one so I kind of pushed it aside. |
